6 Ways to Promote Your Website in 2021

Let me guess. You have a brand new website and were expecting to be instantly getting visitors and converting them into customers? If only it was that easy, right? While we cannot help you become a millionaire overnight, we are going to teach you 6 easy ways you can promote your website in 2021 to help you start building that foundation for a successful online presence!

Note, these are not magic pills and when it comes to promoting your website, it does take hard work, dedication, time, and of course, willingness to develop a plan and execute it. (But we believe in you!)

So let’s get into it.

#1 Start a Blog

As a website designer that has over 10 years of experience and watching websites being created and developed over time, the number one advice we give to all of our clients on how they can grow their online presence, increase their SEO, as well as develop brand awareness and display yourself as an expert in your field is to simply, start a blog. (And when we say to start a blog, we mean to start a blog and use it! Don’t forget about it!)

Your blog is an easy way for you to create original content and to target favorable keywords that your potential customers are searching for online. If you are a little savvier, being consistent in your posting and throwing in some videos and images to complement your posts will further increase your SEO exponentially over the continued months you stick to it!

But wait, there’s a catch. Once you hit the publish button there is still unfinished business to tend to. You have to take the time to promote each of your blog posts. If you just hit the publish button and walk away, your content is just another piece in the content graveyard that grows daily on the Internet.

How do we approach it? If we spend one hour on creating content, we spend an additional one to two hours promoting it. Content is an investment, so take the time to properly promote your hard work.

During content creation ensure the topics you are covering in your blog are content your potential audience wants to see and read about. Make the titles fun and add personality to your writing style. That way when it comes to promoting, posting your content on social media, emailing it out to your email list, you know you’ve done all you can do to hopefully attack new or returning customers.

#2 Build an Email List

You may find email marketing annoying, but it’s huge and still growing in popularity, and we see A LOT of business doing it wrong… but we will get to that later.

If you have a list of emails, utilize them! A lot of businesses build a pretty decent email list and sit on it, scared to use it, or use it too sparingly, and on the flip side of the coin, use their email list WAY TO MUCH.

Don’t make these mistakes, do not bombard your email list, but find a way to consistently interact and try and connect with your customers. Create an engaging monthly newsletter that has a powerful call to action, offer promotions and sales, and keep your customers informed in hopes of building them up as little brand ambassadors even!

The best part about all of this is that the majority of the people on it are part of your target audience. Take advantage of this.

#3 Leverage Google Reviews

Did you know that Google reviews can heavily influence your search rankings? Think about this for a moment, when you search for something online, a product or service, how often are you reading the reviews before making a purchase? Don’t you just love it when you find a product with so many 5-star reviews you become more and more certain that product is for you as you read each one?

You want this for your business, whether you’re a new or old business, leveraging the value that Google Reviews provides is a huge investment in your business.

Let’s pretend you’re a new business that sells a specific product. Give out some free samples and simply ask for a review. If your product is good, you’ll get those reviews. Maybe you’re an old business. Get into touch with some of your past clients, remind them that you loved working together, and ask them if they are willing to leave a review. If they had a positive experience with your business, they won’t mind.

#4 Take Advantage of Local Directories

You will not believe how many businesses ignore local directories, and we don’t blame them. This step is often overlooked, and when you focus time on executing this step it can take your time to scour the internet for local directories.

Now, you are reading this because you need all the help you can promote your website. So we suggest setting aside an entire afternoon to find local directories and finding a way to list yourself on them. It doesn’t cost you anything and will help you build your digital footprint. Note, you will find a few strange directories, but it will help your website and Google’s spider robots will take notice of the additional page links to your website.

#5 Print Advertising

Huh? Counter-intuitive if you are trying to move digital? Fair point. But not everyone is there yet! Print advertising helps put something physical in front of your audience, and hopefully, it lingers in their home or office and not only serves as promotion for your website but also provides brand recognition.

Remember, a potential customer is far more likely to remember you if you take the time to get to know them personally through face-to-face interaction. Make sure your business cards have your website address on it.

Word of advice though, do not design your own print advertisements (unless you are a graphic designer). You may have great ideas, but pony up and invest in properly designed print advertising.  The print is a great way to leverage the sense of touch. Digital is amazing, but it is only one piece of the advertising puzzle.

#6 Meetups and Networking

This should already be a part of your overall marketing plan, but another great way to promote your website! You have to find the time to network, and to network to a broad audience. Now, if you are shy we know this can be a tough thing, but you have to get over that fear if you want to get the word out about your business. Who else is going to? You are your business’s biggest advocate!

A little word of advice, don’t be that guy that is constantly trying to sell to people. No one wants to buy from a desperate salesman. Instead, be in the moment, enjoy people’s company, let others do the talking, and at the end of a conversation, calmly hand them that piece of gold, your business card.

We’ve sold a lot of websites by taking the time to approach people that we knew ran businesses and needed a high-quality, responsive website, and over-time we’re able to make those sales all just by taking the time to get to know them.
